Offering Seva in Bodh Gaya

Compassion, Service, and Human Connection

The recent Inner Peace Conclave in Bodh Gaya, India brought together spiritual practice, community service, and heartfelt human connection in ways that deeply touched everyone involved. From sharing meals with village families to offering blessed saris to local women, the experience became a powerful reminder of dignity, generosity, and the joy that can arise through simple acts of care.

Blessed Saris Shared with Village Women

As part of the event, Her Holiness Sai Maa blessed 400 saris to be gifted to impoverished women from nearby villages. Program participants had the opportunity to personally distribute the saris and witness the joy they brought.

The village women carefully explored the many colors and patterns, delighting in the rare opportunity to choose something for themselves. What may seem like a simple choice became a meaningful moment of beauty, individuality, and celebration.

A Table Set for All

Sai Maa also offered a beautiful bhandara — a blessed community meal — for everyone attending the Conclave, including 80 school children, 40 monks, and hundreds of families living in poverty from the surrounding villages. Participants served nourishing meals and were deeply moved by the experience.

Many families returned for additional helpings, while others quietly carried food home in plastic bags for elderly relatives who could not make the journey and to help sustain their families for several more days. The experience offered a humbling glimpse into the realities many families face and the profound impact a shared meal can have.

A Cherished Visit from Father Maju

Another meaningful part of the gathering was a visit from Father Maju, the Dreams to Degrees partner, who traveled three hours by train to spend two days with the group. Our community appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the program and the many ways Father Maju serves his community with dedication and compassion.

He shared that many of the girls in the program are currently taking their end-of-year exams and exploring opportunities for continued growth and education during the summer break.

A Reminder of What Truly Matters

Each of these experiences — the joy of a chosen sari, the warmth of a shared meal, the opportunity for a better future carried in a student’s exam results — speaks to something far greater than any single event. They are windows into lives being touched, dignified, and nourished. We are grateful to have been present for every one of them and to all whose donations made them possible.
